My handbook only lists Y- rated tyres (capable of 186 mph!) but it is a 2002 car (last year of production). Is this the case in all handbooks or only the later ones? I sense Pirelli P6000s moved from being W rated to Y rated tyres during the production cycle and that W rated tyres with correct load ...

Speed Rating
Does anyone know what speed rating/s were used OEM on XJ8s or what fits the manufacturers minimum requirements? Logic indicates to me that the load rating (i.e. 96) is the most important factor to reflex the heavy weight of the car as W rated tyres are tested up to 168 mph - not necessitating Y rate...

Armrest Catch - How does it work? Any Diagrams Please?
I've just got my car back from Dorset Jaguar & Sportscars where it has had a 70k service, upper chain tensioners, thermostat & ally housing, gearbox oil & filter change, new aux belt and a new nsf suspension bush and its lovely - the smoothness and refinement has stepped up to another level! As a re...

It probably depends on who you speak to in service as to how helpful they are. I called Minster Jaguar in Preston to check the details of the history on my car and there were very helpful, telling me verbally absolutely everything they'd done on the car and advice they'd given the original owner. Th...

JEC Magazine Article Request - Steering Column Fix
I'm told there was an article in the JEC magazine at some stage explaining how to fix the reach on electric steering columns. I've ordered the "Reach Motor Cable" having identified that it is almost certainly what has gone wrong and understand the article explained how to fit these. Can anbody help ...

Water pumps - Issues with All or only Early Cars?
I have recently bought a late March 2002 XJ8 3.2 Sport. I've booked it in to have a 70k service, upper chain tensioners and gearbox oil & filter on 1st March. As a 2002 car will it have a revised water pump without the issues of earlier cars? On the one hand I would like to apply some preventative m...

Yippee I now have a radio!!! : ) It turned out that the power issue related to the head-unit fuse in the nearside rear footwell fusebox. Thank You to: 1) Joe for his guidance and radio manual scans. 2) Minster Jaguar, Preston for providing the correct radio code over the phone in exchange for just a...

Very kind Joe, thank you. I booked my car in with a local recommended specialist for a 70k service, upper tensioners and gearbox oil and filters and mentioned my other little issues to them. On the radio front they said in addition to the fuse in the boot there are around 3 more fuses to check. The ...

Hi Joe, I have most of the instruction manuals - just not the radio one. Not finding the right fuse for the cigar lighter was my shortsightedness and the fact there are about 6 fuse boxes to check through in the book! Now it is so frustrating having the right radio code but not being able to enter i...

No power to the radio?
I've recently picked my XJ8 up and am yet to have a working radio... At first it said Enter Code and I fairly quickly established that the code I had was incorrect. I confirmed this when speaking to the dealer (who gave me another code). Trouble is the radio now seems dead as a dodo. I think I may h...

Oh dear, found the space in question. There was no fuse in there at all (should have been a clue). Put the first one in and tried something - pop. Put a second one in and same thing - pop. So there is a short or something somewhere stopping the cigar light circuit from working. Any more ideas, or ne...

Neither Cigarette Lighter Socket Working
My Tom-Tom died on the way home yesterday because no power was coming from the cigarette lighter. I tried the one in the rear to no avail either. Today looking at the manual I found what I believe to be the fuse in the fusebox behind the near side rear seat. It looked fine but I changed it anyway. T...
