I had this problem a few months ago on my on my 2004 XKR. Turned out to be a sticking switch on the forward alert. It's the switch on the right in the picture. It's a well know 'design feature'. Often worse when the lights have been on and warmed up the unit. It can be minimised by placing large silica gel sachets inside the units or drilling vent holes in the access covers.

If you are not using the car very much it could be a battery problem. These cars are incredibly sensitive to voltage drop.

For what it's worth here is my two penneth... The collection of data and history on older vehicles is, IMHO, an important role for clubs like the JEC. Another Jaguar club I am also a member of started last year to create a register of remaining vehicles. Up until that point a somewhat flawed attempt...
