4.2 V8 N/A Timing Chain and Tensioner Issues?
Before finally getting to view the car i want tomorrow it dawned on me the problems I have read about in the past about timing chain and chain tensioner issues on Jaguar V8 engines. I really just wanted to know if the 4.2 (300bhp) naturally aspirated V8 in the X350 suffered with any of these problem...

Re: Servicing help and information please.
Thanks Mike, I have noticed I've 2 emails from you but haven't had time to look at them yet.
It turns out I now cannot view my favoured option for another two weeks anyway, but will view them before anymore viewings.

Re: Servicing help and information please.
Thanks Paul. I'm much the same personally when it comes to maintenance, but it's my first time looking at Jags and wanted to know the sort of things that should be done and when. After all, a service stamp doesn't tell you much does it? I am hoping to find supporting invoices, and certainly one of t...

Re: Servicing help and information please.
Thanks for the invaluable help. Is it correct to assume the 10k is an oil and filter change, the 20k the same plus maybe air filter and pollen/cabin filter, and the 30k is all filters, fluids including brake fluid plus obviously visual inspection throughout? Mike, do you mind me PM'ing my email addr...

Servicing help and information please.
I just wondered if someone can tell me the service schedule for an XJ8 4.2? I believe the service intervals are 10,000 miles or annually? Does the car tell you what needs to be done and when like on BMW's or is it to a schedule based simply on age/mileage? What I would like to find out is when the m...

Re: X350 Remote Central Locking help needed!
Thanks Andy. From what he has told me that's correct. The remote central locking doesn't currently work from either fob, but he uses the key which still works fine and obviously/presumably switches the alarm and immobiliser off. From my own research it may just be a case of new batteries in the remo...

Re: New forum member but no car.......yet!
Does the bumper have to come off to get at the compressor, or can it be done with the bumper on? Because of the potential snapping of the bolts, if it is a 2 hour or so job, it may just be as cost effective for me to buy a new compressor as by the time i buy the kit and pay at least a couple of hour...

Re: New forum member but no car.......yet!
Well, one of the one's I'm most interested in has recently had most the front bushes replaced and the radiator and thermostat/housing. It's also had the gearbox service done at around 60k as per recommendations. I think if i do end up with it, i will get the compressor repair kit and get that done a...

Re: X350 Remote Central Locking help needed!
Absolutely. I know what the car is worth, at least to me, even if it is all otherwise as described. I also know the market for them is really quite small and only the very best find owners easily. I can't view the car for at least another week anyway as he's currently working away, which is typical,...

Re: X350 Remote Central Locking help needed!
Thanks for that Mike. Would always start with the easiest (and cheapest) option first! Personally, I'm just suspicious as to why you wouldn't just change the battery in the remotes if that is all that's wrong? I can understand, sort of, not doing the first one when it fails if you have the spare han...

Re: New forum member but no car.......yet!
Hi Mike, Thanks for the welcome, and I have indeed spent many hours researching already, and a lot of that research centres around your posts, in particular the research you've done into the air suspension parts and pump as these are the costs I'm most fearful of. I have had three previous cars with...

X350 Remote Central Locking help needed!
I am currently in the market for an X350 and have spoken to someone with one who has told me both keys for the central locking don't work, but it's just the batteries...... I'm sure it is! So, it's not just the batteries in the remotes. £10 would have both replaced at a jeweller's. After researching...

New forum member but no car.......yet!
A quick hello and a long ramble from me. As per the title, I am currently looking for a X350. The story goes something like this. Until recently I have been a real Mercedes enthusiast having owned around 10 different models over the last ten years, and previous to that it was BMW's. The reason for t...
