For 5,000rpm at 70 mph you must have a diff of about 5:1 (assuming standard 185x15 tyres). The standard US diff for an Auto box was 3.31:1 which would give about 110mph at 5000rpm. On my S1 the upper edge of the numberplate is 4.75" down from the peak of the bulge, but I can't guarantee that its in the original position.

I'm running on BP5E in my 1965 4.2 (9:1).

The NGK website gives BP5E as the recommended product, and BP5ES as the alternative.

I'm a bit happier knowing we're all struggling together ! Talking to other people it seems the replacement rubber is stiffer than was originally fitted. Luckily I don't have the door seals to do (for the time being !).

I have just replaced one of my quarterlight window seals on my 1965 FHC after a bit of a struggle.
