This is a very old post but worth replying to..
I sold my 2.0l X type at 180,000 iirc, to a mate who then proceeded to put another 100,000 miles on it and another set of tyres...
He's still my mate.
Good car. shame he didn't change the turbo when it blew...

Re: Correct Coolant Type
Hello Chaps! Longtime... Three years on since last post and the Evans coolant hasn't let me down at all. There was a glitch when the 'low coolant' light came on and worried me but I found the coolant had been dumped into the 'atmospheric collection bottle' for some reason...A bit of research on the ...

Re: Correct Coolant Type
All these different colours... I too have the 'coolant low' warning. DO NOT PANIC. I have decided to change to Evans Waterless coolant anyway and the cheap plastic thermostat housing will also have to go... Expensive, but the yellow/pink stuff is only good for five years whereas the Evans stuff is "...

PaulE, £200 for a head skim? Outrageous!! My AJ6 head was skimmed by Listers (yes, THAT Listers) for £70 and I have no problems with the HG since. I will concede that a HG job on an AJ6 is a wallet depleting experience though... I did all the work (apart from the skim) myself but it still cost me th...

Front subframe swap on a 1987 XJ-S coupe HELP!!!
Phil Go with the Series one subframe. You have nothing to lose. The XJ6 was supposed to contain the V12 engine when it was launched in 1968 but the engine wasn't ready... I'll bet it's compatible. Eventer? Interesting...Mrs T mentioned that she saw one the otherday! You are a brave man if you...

Radius arms and bushes
Are the radius arms still serviceable? They tend to rust from inside out so a few clouts from a small hammer may produce tell tale flakes of rust and/or holes. If they pass this test and you consider they are worth re-bushing, removal of the old bushes is relatively easy..... Chain drill the rubber ...

Sidelights back & Front not working
Sounds like 'Bulb failure module' Failure. Mine had similar symptoms a while back. IIRC around £15 for a new module from Manners.
It looks a bit like the voltage regulator fitted on the back of (proper) Mini instrument packs and can be found by dropping the passenger side fuse box cover.

Front subframe swap on a 1987 XJ-S coupe HELP!!!
I can't see any reason why a series one subframe won't fit. Engine mounts will be different depending on which engine you have in your XJ-S of course... But why, if you have a 1987 car which has a rusty frame, would you want to replace it with an older unit? Series 1's were only in production 1968-7...

No Fast Idle...
Injected the petrol tank with 5 litres of new petrol and couldn't believe the difference!
Started STRAIGHT AWAY and once warm, idled like a good un WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS.
Hmm. Petrol with a shelf life?

Luggage capacity
I wish to complain about the poor luggage capacity of my X-Type Estate.... NOT. 2 Marshall amps, 2 Marshall speaker cabs, 2 bass guitars (in cases) and a bag full of cables.... no problem. Could even see out of the rear window! I used to have a Mk2 Cavalier estate which I thought was pretty good for...
