Re: Flywheel lightening.
Hi Alec Noticed an aluminium flywheel advertised on eBay the other day £450 in e type spares. I was advised against lightening the flywheel for general road use due to fluctuating /unstable idling. I believe that the mass of the flywheel is critical to the engine design and its behaviour when coming...

Re: Flywheel lightening.
Hi
I’d be cautious in relation to lightening your flywheel. The weight of a spring clutch assembly is approximately 12kg and you will only lighten your flywheel by 1 or 2kg at most. Better all round to fit a diaphram clutch which is much lighter and a more worth while upgrade.

Re: 123 tune advance curves
Hi Dave I can confirm that I have 10 degrees of static on the distributor giving all in figures of 32 degrees with the vacuum disconnected. With the vacuum connected on overrun it can briefly touch just over 40 degrees. This rolling road set up suites my modified engine but probably wrong for a stan...

Re: 123 tune advance curves
Hi, in response to 123 curves the first set up was mapped in on a rolling road with a static setting of 10 degrees and gave the peak engine performance at 5000 rpm of 201 bhp. However I find that the car is far more responsive and a much better drive using the second map. Again 10 degrees static set...

Re: 3.8 Ignition timing- position of rotor arm?
Hi there, if you have electronic ignition make sure you have resistored spark plugs.
Try NGK BP5E S ( S is for suppressed) set gap to .025".
If you have 123 tune ignition I can give you advance and vacuum curves to try.
Check plugs first.
Tom.

Re: Idling circuit
<t>Thanks again for your responses. I haven't had a chance to experiment yet and it will be next weekend before I get back into the garage. I have another starter carb solenoid/ needle assembly in good condition that I can try as well as checking for leaks in that circuit. As mentioned before, I hav...

Re: Idling circuit
Thanks gents for taking the time to reply. As PPV suggests I also strongly suspect an air leak. I'm confident that the mating surfaces between the manifold and cylinder head are good and flat with new good quality gaskets fitted. I have blanked the vacuum take offs. The only other thing I can think ...

Idling circuit
I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on a carburettor problem that I'm baffled by. I have a 3.8 fitted with a straight port head with a little porting and slightly larger inlet valves. Piper fast road cams and a classicsfabs exhaust system with 1 7/8" headers. I have a pair of professionally ...
