Re: Confusion over tracking adjustment
Just an update on this, I fitted a 2000psi oil damped pressure gauge in the feed from the pump to the steering box and found virtually no pressure is being developed (manual quotes 850 - 1000psi with the steering under load). I do have another pump which has had all the seals renewed which im going ...

Re: Confusion over tracking adjustment
Hi sorry about delay in getting back on this many thanks for the replies. The measurement of 41.7 mm is that meant to be cm as the centre tie rod is near 41.7cm between centres. I think you have hit the nail on the head as steering box is not centralised when the wheels are in the straight ahead pos...

Confusion over tracking adjustment
Had the front wheel toe in adjusted recently in the local garage and they were confused on how the adjustment is done, my car is a Mk2 3.4 with the older burman power steering but it has replacement adjustable outer tie rods. They made the adjustments using the outer tie rods but of course the manua...

Re: Tearing my hair out with a fuel pump problem.
Thanks for the replies, I got out the old original pump which was not working at all, found the points were very badly pitted and corroded but after a bit of grinding and sanding fitted it temporarily and guess what it stops ticking once the carb float chambers are full (and the ticking of the old p...

Tearing my hair out with a fuel pump problem.
Took my partner out in my 1961 MK2 3.4 and she commented on the tick from the fuel pump in the boot to which I confidently replied "its normal and is pumping the fuel from the tank to the engine" mmm no comment on the wonderful sound from the exhaust and the engine. When I got home I noticed that my...

Re: Early MK2 1961 Engine Breather
Hi oldtimer you are absolutely right after some research I have found that according to my engine and chassis numbers, the pipe which exits right side of the engine looking at the front is indeed a corrugated aluminium with cardboard type internal just vented below the the car. I had forgotten that ...

Re: Early MK2 1961 Engine Breather
Paul, does your 3.8 have the pancake air filter with the paper element? only I found out with a little research that by engine number and chassis number my car should have the old oil bath air cleaner and has been changed at some point to the pancake type but there is no visible point where the brea...

Re: Early MK2 1961 Engine Breather
Thanks Paul I will have a look. I know the early cars such as the MK1 had a pipe but I always thought it would have a catch tank or something otherwise your dropping oil residue on the road as you drive. - Alan

Early MK2 1961 Engine Breather
I have just purchased a 1961 MK2 3.4 my question is about the engine breather system on mine it just has a pipe attached to the breather outlet on the front of the engine which hangs down in the space between the exhaust manifolds and the inner wing without being anchored anywhere I cant believe thi...
