1965 s type rear ashtrays
Hi Everyone, the "S" type has very natty ash-trays, with sliding lids, set into the rear seat arm rests. I dismantled mine, in order to get the lids re-chromed. This was partly successful, but I now cannot find suitable "rivets" to re-build the ash tray assembly pivot points. Does anyone out there h...

Tony,
I'm struggling to get a "p.m." to work. All received, and thank you very much. I hope you have a great holiday.

Interior trim clips, lower half of "B" pillar
Hi All, I'm after a source of the trim clips used on the lower half of the "B" pillar. These clips are different from the door card clips. I'm after two clips, to replace ones that are broken (rusted through?). IMG_0169.jpeg IMG_0170.jpeg The one on the left is the type I'm after, the one on the rig...

Re: Wiring calliper bolts
Thank you for your considered replies. I will be wiring the caliper bolts. Now for a new query! What is the best way to loosen slightly corroded brake nipples? I've been applying penetrating oil around the nipples for a few days now. I have some "nipple spanner's" ( an 11mm will just fit) but I'm fr...

Wiring calliper bolts
I'm interested in the general opinion of members: Is Locktite on the calliper bolts sufficient to secure them, or should they always be wired? I ask because all the cars I've ever worked on have used Locktite ( or equivalent ) on the calliper bolts, apart from my 1965 S type, which has the two calli...

Re: Rebuilding front suspension on a 3.8 S type
My suspension rebuild is coming along gently. Some time has lapsed, as I've had many components grit blasted and electro-coated.I'm just doing the final checking, but I have a concern over the lower wishbone "axle". I've replaced the bushes, but if I tighten the castellated nuts up sufficiently to r...

Re: Suitable grease for sliding joint
Thank you for your reply.
I’m still puzzled by the use of the “sliding joint”, unless it was in preparation for an adjustable steering column. My column is most definitely not adjustable, and is kept in place by a “tab” which prevents any fore & aft movement.

Re: How much FURFLEX is required
Hi there,
I got mine from BAS International, (www.bas-international.com) who sold me a “ Furflex kit” , which in April 2017 cost a grand total of £98.42, of which £10.60 was carriage. Maybe they will be attending the Jaguar spares day in October, and you could save the carriage?.

Suitable grease for sliding joint
Hi there, I’m rebuilding the front suspension of my 1965 3.8 automatic S type, fitted with power steering. The intermediate steering column is fitted with a type of Hookes joint, which is able to slide in/ out via a pair of nylon rollers. The rollers had worn, allowing a fair amount of “slop” in the...

Re: Rebuilding front suspension on a 3.8 S type
Hi Doherto, Thanks for replying. My main problem at the moment is that after having all the suspension components grit blasted and electro painted, I then hurt my back lifting the subframe out of the car! I now trying to avoid any heavy lifting. When I originally dropped the complete subframe, I use...

Rebuilding front suspension on a 3.8 S type
I’ve dismantled my front suspension to investigate very stiff steering. I decided to have the various components grit blasted, and then electro painted. As the fully assembled sub frame is very heavy ( and I’m very old!) I’m hoping to re-fit the “bare” sub frame, and then attach the various suspensi...

Re: LED replacement of lights
On my 1965 3.8 S type, I've replaced the instrument panel lights (including 2 that were missing!), and the ignition/high beam lights etc, all from Gil Keane. The best transformation was the illumination of the "legend strip". I've also replaced the number plate lights and front sidelights. Apart fro...

Re: Removing chrome trim ready for a re-spray
Well things are moving on, but slowly! The car is just about back to bare metal, and in better condition than I had hoped, but still needs a few remedial repairs. The front & rear screens were removed by the Paint shop, and I need to locate some new rubber seals. Has anyone any experience of "M. & C...

Lovely looking car, someone's done an excellent job.
I'm interested in getting some bumpers re-chromed-have you anyone lined up for the job? Any ball park figures on likely costs?
