Re: 1994 Final Facelift XJS Coupe 4.0 Auto for sale
I'm accepting the best offer over £4,000 for a near condition 1 1994 XJS. I know if I was willing to wait I could get more but I guess once you have made your mind up its time to move on. Been a wonderful experience, I suspect this won't be my last XJS. You won't be disappointed :) Updated descripti...

Re: Hello from Chelmsford
Welcome. I'm 4 years in now and the pleasure still outweighs the worry :) I've just solved slight wobble on my steering on initial braking by replacing the LH caliper. One of the 4 pistons was solid. Recon caliper worked a treat. Green stuff pads offer more feel. Took a day to undo the brake pipe nu...

Revised Crank Sensor Bracket Supplied by Andy Stodart
Hi, There was an article 2 months back in the magazine promoting a different crank sensor mounting bracket manufactured by Andy Stodart. I'm tempted to fit one to my AJ16 Engine and wondered if anyone in the club has already replaced theirs? Have you noticed the performance and economy gains suggest...

Classic Car Insurance For a 1995 XJS
Hi Michael, I had the same problem last year when trying to insure my 1994 XJS. Wasn't too concerned with an agreed value as my car is not condition 1. Best place I found was Carole Nash. Always used them in the past for Bike insurance. Their price was much lower than all 3 of the club insurers and ...

Rear Hub Bearings - Assume there is no adjustment?
Hi, I have slight play in the O/S/R hub bearing. The N/S/R seems fine. I noticed it when routine checking the car this weekend, ride is fine with no vibrations or noise. Wasn't picked up in MOT 2000 miles ago. XJS 1994 with the revised normal disc setup (not inboard). Mileage 99,000. You can feel ve...

Air Con Companies in Oxon or Berks
Recharged worked for a couple of weeks and then a new problem arose whereby the compressor would only kick in for 5 seconds and then stop for 30. Think I have finally got to the bottom of the problem. Thanks to a recommendation from Michael Burnside, I took the car to A.C.R.E. in Caterton. 20 years ...

Tyre choice
Hi, After some research I opted for Falken FK-452's at only £75 a corner fitted. They have attracted really great reviews and work very well on my XJS. Better in the wet than the P6000's and seem to have more traction from the rear, failed to spin them at all (although not really trying). I think th...

Barrs leaks
Hi,
I added one bottle when I changed the coolant last month.
It cured a small weap from the hose to the gearbox (common issue).
Since then the temperature guage has been much more consistent, hovering around half way even with the air con engaged.
Mike.

Knew it wouldn't last!
Got a hissing noise inside the car today and little or no cooling
I'm guessing the full charge has stressed the system/seals and 10 to 1 it's the evaporator!
I'll get Polar Air back anyway just to confirm the worst, and then decide how important AC is.

Hi, An update. Found a great guy based in Didcot - Polar Vehicle Systems http://www.polarac.co.uk/ Mobile service, Paul came out on Friday. Did a pressure test, vaccum test and leak test. Really took some time on this, over an hour and a half. All to his amazement were OK! Paul has a lot of experien...

Hello, Well it lasted a year!! The Air Con has stopped working in my 1994 4.0 Coupe. I think it's the last type, fitted with the Sanden SD7H15 compressor and charged with HFC 134A. Brought my XJS a year ago and all was working well until a couple of weeks ago. The compressor clutch is not engaging, ...

Renewing Auto Gearbox Oil & Filter
Hi, Reading the workshop manual it appears that changing the 4.0L auto gearbox oil and filter is well within the capabilities of the DIY enthusiast! Drain and drop the sump (including removal of the dip stick union nut). Replace the filter and gasket, refill. Couple of questions: - Do you really onl...

Coolant - Engine block drain plug
Hi,
Plan to change the coolant soon on my 1994 4.0 Coupe. I understand that there is a radiator drain tap so will look for that!
Can anyone tell me where I will find the drain plug for the engine block please?
Thanks,
Mike.

5 Spoke Alloys - Wheel Nut Size??
Guys, Thanks for your replies. I've sourced the wheels from a Jaguar alloy specialist in SW Birmingham. They're off a late XJS. I've thought long and hard about the finish and decided to go for powder coated as opposed to original diamond turned and eggshell inner as my Jag is in regular use. Goes o...
