Could somebody please advise how/if it is possible to remove the vacuum pipe running from the brake master cylinder to the inlet manifold elbow, as shown in the attached picture.

Problem solved thanks to the good advise from David Marks. A valuable source of information. Turned out to be a £1.50. 4 way hose connector on the vacuum pipework, which was broken.
