Re: Moss box whine in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears
I did have Redline MT 90 on order for a couple of months around Christmas but was out of stock and that’s why I ended up using SAE 30 . Perhaps I’ll try again, might be back in stock. Some of the gears had Jaguar part numbers but not all so it’s anyone’s guess what gears have been replaced over the ...

Re: Moss box whine in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears
There was maybe a couple of thousands of an inch play but I assumed that was acceptable. Perhaps that’s why it still whines. I didn’t check it with a dti but I still didn’t have any backlash/ clearance between the gears. I also found it hard to believe that the holes were bored too close together an...

Re: Moss box whine in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears
Thank you for your reply Tony. I have had the gearbox to bits , checked the shafts for scoring , checked them with a micrometer, gave them a very fine polish in the lathe with 400 grit emery cloth. The gears themselves were very shiny and there was no backlash between them. The two shafts that the g...

However I can't see anything wrong. It all looks perfect , even down to the needle rollers on the lay shaft. I expecte...

Vehicle Lift
Has anyone any experience of storing an E on a Single Post Lift with a platform with removable center panels for maintenance on the car, rather than the 4 arm type. Takes up less space in the garage than a Four Post Lift. Only one suitable is from the USA. There must be someone manufacturing them in...

Re: Removal of cylinder head studs from the engine block
Hi Kev, Had the same problem some years ago on a series two. The cylinder head bolts go all the way through the water ways apart from 2. You might try removing the core plugs and this will give you access to where the studs are fitted. then you can spray loads of releasing fluid on them. They will al...

Re: Polyurethane Suspension Bushes
Thank you for the reply Ray.
If I do go ahead with the poly bushes, this will be the 3rd lot of bushes. I think when I restored the car back in the 90's I put the best ones in the dustbin.
All the best,
Paul.

Polyurethane Suspension Bushes
Has anyone fitted PU suspension bushes to their E Type for general road use? If so is the ride harsh or comfortable? Does the car handle better? Be most grateful for your experience on this.

Re: Engine Miss-fire
Thanks for your reply Alex, Checked the gaps and cleaned the spark plugs. Back two seemed to be running a bit rich but the one thing I did find was that the Carb dash pots were nearly out of oil. Topped these up and took it for a test drive today and all seems okay so far. No more missfiring. Hopefu...

Engine Miss-fire
Engine missfires. Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition and and Pertronix Coil fitted some 6 years ago and has ran okay until now. 4.2 litre 6cyl engine now missfires at 2500 RPM when hot. Using Lucas 22D Distributor. Has anyone got any ideas as to what it might be?

Re: Tyres
You can use Aston Martin DB6 MK 2 Wire Wheels. They are offset by 1" and you can use 205 wide tyres without any rubbing. They look better as they fill out the wheel arch more. The rear bump stops can be left in place and will only come in contact with the tyre when the car is jacked up for wheel rem...

Re: Pulsating/flickering lights
Repaired rusted eyelet terminal on regulator. Cut back plastic insulation to reveal clean metal.Made a new eyelet from copper and soldered it to the clean metal on the regulator. Fitted it to the XK8 and hey presto, no more pulsating/flickering lights. Alternator now producing 14.4 volts at the Batt...

Update on Brake Light Switch.
Removed faulty switch and pressure tested it. It took 5 bar pressure for it to operate. Cut it in half and without going into detail it was just poorly manufactured. Fitted new one and all is okay.
